Boat Ramps - Poona.

General Information

Poona is a small fishing village situated at the southern end of Great Sandy Strait overlooking world heritage Fraser Island Unlike many places in the region Poona has good sandy beaches at all tides suitable for swimming and sailing.

Facing southeast along the sandy strait Poona is sheltered from the prevailing northerly winds. There are a number of creeks close by.Water depths up to 30m are available in the straits and good access to offshore fishing grounds providing choices for all.

Where is Poona?

Traveling north along the Bruce Highway Poona is 2 1/2 hours drive from Brisbane. Take the Tin Can Bay turn at Gympie, look for the Maryborough Road turnoff  to the right. The Poona turn off is clearly sign posted on the right.The road into Poona is
7Km of Bitumen road.If traveling south turn at Maryborough and follow the Rainbow/Tin Can Bay signs.

Fishing Facilities

There is one boat ramp, The Poona boat ramp is only should only be accessed at high tide because low tide access is unusable due to soft sand flats. There is a Caravan park with camping sites available & convenience store  Please note there is no fuel available at Poona There are a number of houses and units available for rent.
