Boat Ramps - Tin Can Bay.

General Information

Population : Approximately 3000 which increases significantly during holiday periods. Situated in Tin Can Bay Inlet on Snapper Creek, Tin Can bay is a long established fishing village and is still home to a large commercial trawling fleet.
Weather is subtropical with prevailing south east winds. There is a marina with trawl lifting facility's as well as a slipway. There are several boat ramps as well as ample protected deep water anchorage’s. Excellent estuary fishing both boat and land based in the estuary and access to Sandy Strait and off-shore via Wide Bay Bar.

How to get there

200 km north of Brisbane, turn at Gympie (162 km north) onto Tin Can Bay Road. If traveling from the north turn at Maryborough and travel down the Cooloola Coast Road to Tin Can Bay Road and turn left and follow the signs.

Fishing Facilities

Has all the facilities for boating with good ramps situated at Norman Point and Crab Creek (Toolara). Fuel, ice, bait and tackle are all available. Easy access to the inlet and Great Sandy Strait which is one of the most significant and vast estuary system on the east coast of Australia. Offshore fishing is accessible via the Wide Bay Bar, which you should not attempt to cross without first obtaining some local advise as the bar can be EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. A Coast Guard Station is situated at Norman Point

Accommodation

There is ample accommodation available for the holiday maker. Two caravan parks, two motels, a hotel and an abundance of self contained units.

Shopping Facilities

The usual shopping facilities for a medium sized coastal town are all available, with bank, supermarket, post office, hardware, hot bread kitchen, chemist butcher, boat and motor repairs and chandlery.

Entertainment

Limited entertainment. One hotel, large country club with 18 hole golf course, restaurant and bowling green - regular competitions with visitors welcome. Also separate bowling club with pokies available at both clubs.

CAN'T GO FISHING?

Dolphin feeding at Norman point has become a major attraction. Trip to Rainbow Beach (38km) giving access to sandy beaches and world heritage Fraser Island.
