Black Spot Tusk-Fish (Choerodon schoenleinii (Cuvier & Valenciennes)

(Click for large pic. 21Kb)

Found on reefs running along the coast. They derive their name from their possessing tusk like canine teeth, but are generally known as "Parrot". This is a large species exceeding a length of 900mm (36 inches) and a weight of 15.5kg (34 lb). In colour, the body ranges from olive green to brilliant purplish-green above, tending to yellow below. Each scale bears a vivid vertical blue stripe.

Anglers usually capture this fish whilst bottom fishing in reef locations, using baits of small crabs. The flesh is white and flaky and well flavoured. This Parrot is a plucky and determined fighter, even on a heavy hand line.
