The Blue Marlin is a large game fish , glowing purple blue above with bluish purple stripes on the upper body; these colours fade rapidly after death. It is recorded locally to a length of 3.5m and a weight of 220kg. It is a diagnostic character that the pectoral fins fold flat against the body and are shorter than the body depth. An almost invisible lateral line zigzags along the side of the body, becoming more noticeable with age.
