Coral Reef Fin Fish (CRFF)

Due to the extensive nature of the Coral Reef Fin Fish Management Plan it is recommended you go to the QLD govt website Fisheries (Coral Reef Fin Fish) Management Plan 2003 for full details! (Click here)

All anglers need to be able to correctly identify fish that they catch as there are now species specific limits and exceptions as well as a reduced overall in possession limit.

NB:

  • The CRFF plan lists, in schedule 2, the species of fish covered by the regulations.
  • Groups of species are listed eg; all Wrasses, Tropical sea perches etc
  • Grant’s guide to fishes IS NOT the source of scientific names!

The following is taken from the DPI publication: Tidal Waters. A brief guide to rules and regulations from 13 December 2003.
It is not exhaustive, nor does it list all species that may be subject to regulation.

Limits:

  • All coral reef fin fish species have (unless otherwise specified)
    • a minimum size limit of 25cm and
    • an individual limit of 5.
  • Total combined limit of 20 coral reef fish in total. However
  • there are species specific possession limits included in the 20 bag limit
  • a larger list of No-Take species.
  • Closed season - 3 x 9 day closures, each year, in coastal waters for the coral reef fin fish species.

Regulated species: Taking or possessing fish regulated by species is prohibited.

  • Barramundi Cod
  • Chinamanfish
  • Paddletail
  • Potato Cod
  • Queensland Grouper
  • Red Bass
  • Humphead Maori Wrasse
