This is the common Whiting of the Maryborough district, extending southwards to Moreton Bay; it occurs abundantly in shallow sandy estuaries and on nearby ocean beaches, generally in company with Sand Whiting (Summer whiting), a species very similar to it in general appearance and with which it is often confused.
A small species attaining about 300 mm (12 inches). The Golden lined Whiting is a uniform silvery fish distinguished by two main characteristics: the presence of a bright yellow band running length wise along the body beneath the lateral line, and the absence of a dark blotch at the base of the pectoral fin. The longitudinal yellow band, however, fades somewhat after death.
Another feature of this fish is the bright yellow of the anal and ventral fins. Although small, it is a very good table fish.
Best baits are the local yabby.
