General Information
Tinnanbar is a small fishing village situated at the southern end of Great Sandy Strait overlooking world heritage Fraser Island and is probably the nearest mainland settlement to the island. Unlike many places in the region Tinnanbar has good sandy beaches at all tides suitable for swimming and sailing. Facing north along the sandy strait Tinnanbar is sheltered from the prevailing south easterly winds. There are a number of creeks close by, water depths to 30m in the straits and good access to offshore fishing grounds providing choices for all.
Travelling north along the Bruce Highway Tinnanbar is 2 1/2 hours drive from Brisbane. Take the Tin Can Bay turn at Gympie, look for the Maryborough Road turnoff (44 Km from Gympie) to the right. The Tinnanbar turn off is clearly sign posted on the right. Tinnanbar is 78 Km from Gympie. If travelling south turn at Maryborough and follow the Tin Can Bay signs. Tinnanbar turn-off is about 40 Km from Maryborough on the left.
