Proposal for the Creation of Recreational Fishing Havens: Cooloola and Fraser Island

A proposal to have the beaches of Cooloola and Fraser Island declared net free to make them a Recreational Fishing Haven has been gaining traction. Decades of research by Teewah local Lindsay Dines has uncovered some startling and very worrying trends in relation to the effects that regular netting has on beach fish species and the consequences of that. This proposal outlines the necessity for greater protective measures of the inshore fish stocks of the Cooloola and Fraser Island region to be implemented. Serious depletion of commercially targeted species’ populations have occurred over recent decades, primarily as a result of overfishing by the commercial sector. If you wish to support this proposal pick up the phone and ring your local state government member as well as the fisheries minister and the shadow minister or send them an email.  Download the PDF Here.
